Implementation in Austria

Since 2006 the Austrian Commission for UNESCO has followed the Austrian ratification process of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. With the official ratification in 2009 it was entrusted with the national implementation of the Convention.

Its main tasks involve increasing awareness-raising measures for the safeguarding, transmitting and promoting of the intangible cultural heritage in Austria, and drawing up the national inventory for this convention.

The implementation of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is financed from funds made available by the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the Federal Ministry of Health.
